Abstract

The thesis, “A Study of Buddhist Propagation of the First Unit Meditation Centre of Khon Kaen Province” was made systematically in three purposes: a study of development of the first unit meditation centre of Khon Kaen Province, a study of Buddhist propagation of the first unit meditation centre of Khon Kaen Province, and an analytical study of views on Buddhist propagation of the first unit meditation centre of Khon Kaen province. This study was a qualitative research that stressed on a documentary study and an interview with an analytical and descriptive research.

A result of this research study was found that the Buddhist propagation of Wat Pobannontan started developing with the propagation of the insight meditation in a time when Phrakhrubodhisarakhun (Prayong Upalawanno) held the position of an abbot. He started firstly instructing the insight meditation at Wat Pobannontan. He trained the insight meditation teachers and developed this temple proper to propagate Buddhism. Later, Phrakhrubhavanapodhikun, a present abbot developed it in high quality with many ways of Buddhist propagation, the use of academic ideas, and the modern media. Ways of the Buddhist propagation were developed properly for the modern time and participants such as teenagers, students, the government’s servants, people and foreigners. As a result, Wat Pobannontan was appointed as the first unit meditation centre of Khon Kaen Province.

The Buddhist propagation of the first unit meditation centre of Khon Kaen Province covered training all insight meditation teachers both in theories and practice. This training dealt with clear steps of training and practical courses such as the management of four knowledge bases—a base of Buddhist features, a base of religions ceremonies, a base of Dhamma-mixed songs, and a base of practicing meditation. All buildings and places were developed properly for practicing the insight meditation and holding the offensive-defensive Buddhist propagation until the temple was accepted and praised by many people.

Views of all people in the societies were that in this Buddhist propagation, many well-trained meditation teachers had a skill of teaching, good style, courses and places of propagation. Thus, it was a proper place to teach people about the insight mediation.
