AN APPLICATON OF BUDDHADHAMMA IN SCHOOLS: A CASE STUDY OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS IN NAKHONSAWAN PROVINCE 2011

Abstract

The objectives of this thesis  were : 1) to  study  Buddha-Dhamma in conformity with the educational institution principles, 2) to study opinion of school administrators in the application of Buddha-Dhamma in educational institution administration, and 3) to study ways of the application of Buddha-Dhamma in the educational institutions  according to viewpoint of the school administrators. This research was the mixed methods research consisting of the qualitative research and the quantitative research. The documents studied in the qualitative research were Tipitaka, a commentary and other related scriptures, documents concerning the educational administration and related research. The quantitative research used surveying the opinion of the school administrators in the application of Buddha-Dhamma for the administration within the educational institutions and the ways of the application of Buddha-Dhamma in educational institutions. The sample was the school administrators of schools in Nakhonsawan Primary Educational Service Area Office 1-3 and Nakhonsawan Secondary Educational Service Area Office 42. The tools of collecting data were questionnaires. The analysis of qualitative data was made by analyzing the content and Analytic Induction.  Moreover, the analysis of quantitative data was made by the statistics: percentage, mean and standard deviation.

Results of the Research

1.  Buddha-Dhamma according with the principles of the educational administration consisted of the seven Sappurisadhammas, the qualities of a good man: knowing the causes, knowing the purposes, knowing oneself, knowing how to be temperate, knowing the proper time, knowing the society, and knowing the individuals, the four Sangahavatthus, the virtues making for group integration and leadership: Dana, Piyavaca, Atthacariya, and Samanattata, and the four Iddhipadas, the basis for success: Chanda, Viriya, Citta, and Vimamsa. The school administrators should hold to all Dhamma to apply with the administration of the educational institutions.

2.  The opinion of the school administrators in the application of Buddha-Dhamma in the educational institution administrations found that the opinion concerning the seven Sappurisadhammas was in high level. Moreover, the opinion concerning the four Sangahavatthus and the four Iddhipadas were in the highest level.

3.  The ways of the application of Buddha-Dhamma in the educational institutions according to viewpoint of the school administrators found that the personalities of the administrators that should be the model in the practice were having the morality in the administration and holding the public administration. The good characters of the school administrators had an effect on the acknowledgement from personnel. It makes the working effective, the teachers have the good morale, and the students are developed absolutely. Things the school administrators wants in the working of the personnel within the educational institutions are: the personnel believe in the profession, intent to teach, have the morality, have the attempt, sacrifice, love the students and work with taking care. The administrators give the importance of the public administration in the success of working, and the personnel are happy in working. Things the administrators are satisfied in the administration are holding on the morality, supporting the personnel and promoting the education of the students. The good administrators must have the morality in working. All the administrations agree and give the reasons supporting the morality in the administration, making the believing, the basis of love and the unity. If the administrators have the morality, it makes the teacher have the good state of mind, build the happy atmosphere in working. Those influence the capacity in learning and teaching and the quality of the students
