This thesis aims to ๑) study the understanding and Method of practicing about the principle of Contemplation on death for the practitioners in Watmuangkhong, ๒) study the result of that practice. Qualitative research method was selected by using documentary research and field research by interviewing
This study is found that :
The practitioners have good knowledge and understand well about the Contemplation of death and the method of practice. In Watmueangkhong. They realized that the death is the normal matter for human beings because it is the natural truth which can’t not be escaped. It means the decease of five aggregates of which Beings are composed, that is ; the body and mind are separated from each other. The state is always changed, impermanent, selfless, so that we should not grasp on compound condition, but should be on mindfulness, and perform good meritiorious deed for one-self’s and other’s benefits. The causes of death are four : 1) the expire of age, 2). illness or health problem, 3). accident, and 4). Committing suicide which is caused by the problems of politics, economics, social matter, family or own-self. Shortly the human beings die because it is the time for to die. The practitioners understood very well the basic method about Contemplation on death, namely; breathing in-out, mindfulness on death while walking and sitting meditation. This can be applied in the daily life activities, for example; cleaning the body or joining in a funeral ceremony, for reducing heedlessness on age. For more understanding of the practitioners who are interested in the method of Contemplation on death, Watmueangkhong mostly emphasizes on sitting meditation by Contemplation of death and also spreads this method on air through the radio, exhibitions, papers, brochures, leaflets, pictures and signboards.
The result of practicing the principle of Contemplation on death in Watmueangkhong is to enable the practitioners understand about the way of practicing on death, be on mindfulness, heedlessness, have strong mind, self hard, be tamed, control the mind to do good deed and to abstain from unwholesome, stay on virtue, reduce the greed, hatred and delusion, understand about the movement of desire and craving, be one who stays with happiness, not suffering. The meditation Practice will give fruits rapidly or late, is depend on three factors ; understanding of practitioners, continuousness, and taking care of teacher who should pay attention to teach and train them, these are the particular benefits. For the general public benefits, it is not only understanding about the arts of death, but also it can lead to heedlessness, mindfulness, mind controlling, staying with wholesome deeds, abstaining from unwholesome deeds. These ways can lead the society to solidity, unity, happiness and peaceful society. |
