The Belief and the Method of Practice Concerning the Relics for the Year of Birth for the Buddhists in Prae Province 2011

Abstract

This thesis is of three objectives, namely: 1) to study the history, the belief and the method of practice about the Relics for the year of birth. 2) to study the belief and the method of practice about the Relics for the year of birth for the Buddhists in Prae Province. And 3) to study the factors which are influential to the belief and the method of practice about the Relics for the year of birth for the Buddhists in Prae Province. This research study is the integrated one both of the quantity and the quality by ingathering the data from the Tipitaka, the Commentaries, the related documents and the data’s from the exemplary groups of 180 persons. Thence, the researcher brought the data to be analyzed in the base of quantity and the quality of the research.

                      From the study, it is found that:-

                      1)      The belief and the method of the practice about the Relics and the Relics for the year of birth rose from the concepts and the belief in the field of the pagoda in Buddhism and the Holy Places in Buddhism. Later on, there was the constriction of the mental objectives and the related traditions until the becoming of the belief in the Relics for the year of birth in the Thai societies, which give the result to the practice, that is, the sacrifice with the material things and the practice of the Dharma.

                      2)      From the study in the belief and the method of the practice about the Relics for the year of birth of the Buddhists in Prae Province, it is found that most of exemplary groups are the females more than the males. They are of the ages between 21-30 years, and the levels of their educations are at the levels Bachelor Degree. They carry on the careers of independent livelihood, and the generally work freely. In the field of income, they get a salary about baths 4,000-8,000 per month. Most of all of the questionnaire answers used to join in the practice at the temples or to join with the other former institutes. They have been earned the some informations about the Relics for the year of birth from the Buddhist, Regarding. Their knowledge of Buddhism, most of them have most knowledge of the merits, the sins, the Kamma.        

                      About the belief in the Relics for the year of birth, it is found, most of them have the belief in the aspect of the Buddha’s virtues to the Relics of the Pra Dhātu Chohae at the highest level. At the next level, it is the belief in the field of the Holiness of the Relics of the Pra Dhātu Chohae. In accordance with the method of practice towards the Pra Dhātu Chohae, it is found that mostly the people worship Pra Dhātu Chohae at the highest levels. However, in the collective view, most of the exemplary group have the practices of worshipping the Pra Dhātu Chohae at the middle level.

                      3)      From the test of the supposition, it is found that the individual factors were the sex, the age, the education, the occupation, the income, the birth place and the factor about Buddhism, the practice of Buddhism, the acknowledgement of the Relics for the year of birth, the information about the history of Buddhism and the realization in the merit – the demerit – the volition, the relation with the belief and the method of the practice about the Relics for the year of birth for the Buddhists all of which show that the belief and the method of the practice about the Relics for the year of birth is of the relationship with other factors. All the above mentioned practices are the Buddhist people’s beliefs in the their societies.
