This thesis had three purposes : (1) study the yellow robes of Theravada Buddhism, (2) to study the provisions relating to the use of yellow robes to the Buddhist doctrine, and (3) to study the benefits of using the yellow robes of Theravada Buddhism. The results showed that in Theravada Buddhism, the word “yellow robe” means the yellow robes of Buddhist monks and novices clothing in Theravada Buddhism consisting of Sangkhati Uttrasong and Antaravasaka as appeared in Tripitaka or the Holy Scriptures; Which was consistent with the yellow robes of monks called “yellow robes” because of the content on the yellow robe usually refers to the three pieces of Antaravasaka, Uttrasong and Sangkhati; that Buddha allowed the Buddhist monk to accept the civara presented by the wealthy, but the yellow robes in this Civara Khantaka means the fabric not yet turned into the yellow robes made of silk and cloth fabrics the Civaka offered to the Buddha, such as Fabric Aernheyrn , rain cloth , seat linen, bed clothes, abscess napkins, and other cloth.
Besides, “yellow robe” means clothing that monks and novices in Buddhism use which includes Sangkhati, Uttrasong and Antaravasaka that appeared in Tripitaka. It also means three pieces of cloth for covering the body of monks and novices, which are solemnly called Antaravasaka, Uttrasong, and Sangkhati. In this sense, in the well-known Buddhist ordination, the yellow robe is as used a blanket term to refer to the monks. Most Thai people understand that yellow robe is monks’ and novices’ costume, one of the four basic necessities.
The Provision concerning the use for yellow robes to Buddhist monks Based on the study, showed that yellow robes are four usable consumer goods of a monk, and novices that, must be considered before consumption: yellow robes. food, living shelters and medicine (Cilanapesach). in this research, only the yellow robes allowed by the discipline, relevant rules, regulations, and practices of the monks have been presented. The Buddha for mulated rules and provisions and allowed the monks to have three garments of the yellow robes Buddha believd there might several types of yellow robes but the laid down two provisions for this : (1)provision that allows the use of yellow robes and (2) provision that does not allow the use of yellow robes.
The use of the yellow robes in Theravada Buddhism can be summarized under two sections: (1) the successor to the discipline that how to maintain the discipline that succession is best by education, learning and good deeds to be a discipline that must be met for the Buddha’s commandments and the discipline of the monks. However, the provisions relating to clothing or the yellow robes, collecting alms, must not be offensive to Singkhabod, and (2) the spread of Buddhism about the use of yellow robes for Buddhist monks while collecting alms both directly and indirectly, which the villagers ment, could see the simplicity, a modesty , detach, simple living, and good conduct. |
