This thesis is of three ofjectives namely :- 1.to study the Jatakas appearing at The Painting of Bra Vihara Luang in Wat Sudassanadebvararam, 2. to study the Doctrinal principles appearing at The Painting of Bra Vihara Luang in Wat Sudassanadebvararam, 3. to analitically study the Doctrinal principles in Jatakas appearing at The Painting of Bra Vihara Luang in Wat Sudassanadebvararam which support the values of leading lives in Thai Societies. It is the qualitative research with the aim to study the Jatakas appearing at The Painting of Bra Vihara Luang in Wat Sudassanadebvararam by studying from the Buddhist Sriptures in the Three Baskets, Atthakatha, Painting, the stone insseaptions at the wall of Bra Vihara Luang and the documents at the Aroheological Division, Fine Art Department. It also consists of interview with the monks in Wat Sudassanadebvararam and the academicians.
From the research, it can be concluded that at Bra Vihara Luang in Wat Sudassanadebvararam, there are the Jatakas appearing at the paintings of the 32 stories as follows :- 1. Devadamma-Jataka, 2. Nalapana-Jataka, 3. Kulavaka-Jataka, 4. Losaka-Jataka, 5. Vanarinda-Jataka, 6. Bilavata-Jataka, 7. Ghatasana-Jataka, 8. Kaka-Jataka, 9. Singala-Jataka, 10. Sukara-Jataka, 11. Guna-Jataka, 12. Dadhivahana-Jataka, 13. Mandaturaja-Jataka, 14. Suvannakakkata-Jataka, 15. Uluka-Jataka, 16. Kakavati-Jataka, 17. Jambuka-Jataka, 18. Baveru-Jataka, 19. Susandhi-Jataka, 20. Mittavinduka-Jataka, 21 .Latukika-Jataka, 22. Dabbhapuppha-Jataka, 23. Sankha-Jataka, 24. Ghatapandhita-Jataka, 25. Supparaka-Jataka, 26. Samuddavanija-Jataka, 27. Javanahansa-Jataka, 28. Pandharakanagaraja-Jataka, 29. Kinchanda-Jataka, 30. Kunala-Jataka, 31. Mahajanaka-Jataka, 32. Mahosadha-Jataka.
These Jatakas consist of many mixed Doctrinal principles which the researcher has divided into 19 Doctrinal principles such as :- the principles of Ti-Sikkha, the Four Gharavasa Dhammas, the Saven Sappurisa Dhammas, the Saven Noble Properties, the Eight Worldly Doctrines, the Sixteen Upakilesas etc. At the end of Jatakas, there appeared the propagations of the Buddha’s Doctrinal Truths. That is His propagation of the Four Noble Truths which are the hearts of the Doctrines in Buddhism. This fact enables the listeners of Jatakas to attain the various Doctrines from the state of Sotapanna up to that of Arahantaship. This shows that these Doctrinal principles can develop and raise the people’s mental levels to go out of the Worldly things and to finally attain the supermandane state.
In addition to what have been mentioned, these Doctrinal principles in Jatakas, uphold the value of life style in the Thai Societies in various ways :- the politices, the administration, the education, the economics, the Thai customs and culture. The found Doctrinal principles :- Sila, Hiri, Ottappa and Panna all of which are in the Saven Noble Properties etc. which are influential to the Thai Societies. They are the main bases of leading the Thai people lives. It can clearly be seen that the virtues and the advantages found in Jatakas appearing at The Painting of this Bra Vihara Luang which the people can bring to be applied to their lives. It is the way of life to help oneself and others to be the best peaceful, happy and to have progress and development in their lives.
