The thesis “A Critical Study of the Buddhist Doctrines and World View on Phrayakhankhak E-san Folk-Talks” had main purposes to study analytically Phrayakhankhak E-san folk-talks, the Buddhist doctrines Phrayakhankhak E-san folk-talks, and the Buddhist doctrines and world view on Phrayakhankhak E-san folk-talks. This study was a documentary research by a descriptive research and an analytical research in order to get a summary and a suggestion in order to find for the conclusion and suggestions.
The result of the present study was found that the characteristics of E-san folk-talks were mixed between local beliefs and local folks. Most of them were out of a writer’s name. All of those folks were possibly made in the following groups—Buddhist literature, historical literature, folk literature, didactic literature, and miscellaneous literature.
The Buddhist doctrines in Phrayakhankhak E-san folk-talks were divided into two parts: (1) natural phenomena—Four Noble Truths, five aggregates, Three Characteristics, and the Law of Action, and (2) virtue—gratitude, loving kindness, harmony, contentment, generosity, friendliness, the fulfillment of giving, and effort.
The world view on nature was to make use of nature—to bring raining water as an important, natural factor into people’s farms. The world view on a supernatural thing was a secret and miracle of happening events such as the creation of a castle for Phrayakhankhak. The principles of relation were the relation of members in a family and a society. The principle of administration in Phrayakhankhak E-san folk-talks was immorally used by Phrayakhankhak. The world view on economics and a way of life was people’s farming that they were inevitable to use raining water in their farm. When there was no raining because of Phrayathaen’s immoral action, they were suffering. Then, they came together to fight against Phrayathaen till they defeated him at the end and finally, they got happy as found in the first time.
