The main purposes of this thesis were to study a history of worshiping the great Phradhatu and Phradhatu Lanong of Buddhists in the Nongkhai province, and the beliefs and rite about Phradhatu Lanong on Buddhists in the Nongkhai province.
The result of the present study was found that Phradhatu Lanong in the Nongkhai province was a pagoda to contain the Buddha’s relics-the relics of his right foot made by five Arahants. Later, the Chaiyachettharat king established a big pagoda to cover a dhatu. Phradhatu Lanong was ruin and went down into the Khong River in 1847. Then, it was reproduced in 2004.
Buddhists in the Nongkhai province believed that Phradhatu Lanong was a pagoda to contain the real Buddha’s relics. It had auspicious power, and miracle to save believers from danger and to give them the prosperity.
The rite of worshiping Phradhatu Lanong that was practiced form generation to generation was Rocket festival, competition of a long boat and giving, Prasatphueng Remain ash Floating and Illuminated Boat Procession. This rite was derived from generation to generation till it became a tradition that was organized in every year. In the present time, there was a change of practice from worship to competition.
