Abstract

This  research  is of  3  objectives namely :-  1)  The study of  the   meaning of    the Paccekabuddha  in  Theravāda Buddhist  texts.  2) The study of  Background  of           the Paccekabuddha  in  Theravāda Buddhist  texts.  3)  The study of  the Doctrinal Organism possessed by the  Paccekabuddha, the private knowledge of  enlightenment  and Phra Paccekabuddha’s behavior.

From the study,  it is found that :-The Paccekabuddha (the Private Buddha) is the Buddha who gained enlightenment  by Himself.   He did not listen to the Buddha’s  Doctrines,  but   stayed  alone without contentment,  SantutÚtÚhi (satisfaction with whatever  one owns,  and he attained Nibbāna without announcing the Dhammas to all living creatures.   The Paccekabuddha must have  5 qualities as follows :-  1) The state of being a human. 2) The state of being a man. 3) The meeting  of  someone who had not any Āsavas. 4) The making of Great Puñña and 5) The possesion  of  Chanda (aspiration).

Background  of  the   Paccekabuddha   first  time  that  perform  meritorious  acts there  are  called Pacceka  Bodhisatta.    He ‘s enlightened  individual,  he making half time of the Buddha.

The Doctrinal Organism possessed by the  Paccekabuddha were as follows :-

The Dhammasamothāna (the collection of Dhamma), the ethics, the gatapaccāgatavatta (the practice of meditation again after stopping for a while),  and the Paccekabodhiñāna (the private knowledge of  enlightenment)

Phra Paccekabuddha’s behavior was PinÚdÚpāta (going for alms), Vassāvāsa (observing the rainy retreat) and Uposathakhāmmā (attending the Sangha’s activities). In addition, he was  of  Prahmacariyā  conduct, and living alone.    He was also said to be the field for people to cultivate their merits.

Although  the  Paccekabuddha  could  not   teach  the Dhamma to  anyone  to cause  him  or  her  to  be  enlightened,  he was supported by many people by PinÚdÚpāta        for  their  merit making (Puñña-Kusala) and morality.  The Paccekabuddha had not instructed the Dhammas  to  the people.   He was satisfied with living alone.     However,  when  the  people  mentioned   about Ānisamsa,   good  result  from  the  people’s giving  Dāna,   the  people  always  said  about   Paccekabuddhas  to   be in the second position from the Buddha as :-

No.1 is the Buddha   No. 2  is the Paccekabuddha   No. 3  is the Arahantasāvakas.
