The main objectives of this research were i) to study the Sangha roles in community development in Pathumthani province in social, economic, cultural, public health and environmental aspects; and ii) to study the problems and suggestions relating to the Sangha roles in community development in Pathumthani province. The survey research was carried out in this study.
A group of samples for this research consisted of 200 monks in Pathumthani Province, being drawn by purposive sampling technique. The tool for data collection in this research was questionnaire comprising personal characteristics, Sangha roles in community development in social, economic, cultural, public health and environmental aspects and opened end questions. The programme for social science research was employed for data analysis. The statistics used for it are frequencies, percentage, average means and standard deviation. The data analysis was also done through t-test for testing the hypotheses in order to test the average difference between the two groups and f- test by one-way analysis of variance (One-way ANOVA) and Least Significant Difference : LSD) were used for testing the difference between the averages from three or more groups.
The findings of Research were concluded as follows:
Majority of respondents completed the highest level of Dhamma Studies, 1-2 and 3 levels of Pali Studies with Bachelor degree in respect of general education. Most of them were abbots with more than 30 years of monkhood and stayed in their temples more than 20 years.
The overall Sangha roles in community development in Pathumthani province in social, economic, public health and environmental aspects were found at moderate level, whereas cultural aspect was noticed at the high levels. |
