A Study of the Papañcadhamma in Theravada Buddhism is of 3 objectives, namely :- (1) to study the meaning and the kind of Papañcadhamma in Theravada Buddhism, (2) to study the process of the arising of Papañcadhamma and the relationship with the connected group of Dhamma and (3) to study the method of lessening and abandoning the Papañcadhamma.
From the research, it is found that the Papañcadhamma in Theravada Buddhism categories is of about the 108 cravings, the 62 views and the 9 conceits, all of which are the defilements causing one to be slow and be the organ causing one to think confusingly in the past, in the present and in the future cause the people to misunderstand everything, especially the five aggregates.
The relationship of the Papañcadhamma and Upàdànadhamma in the circle of Paticcasamuppāda. Papañcadhamma is the confusing defilement causing one to misunderstand the five aggregates the fact of which causes Upàdàna in the five aggregates to arise.
The Papañcadhamma causes the perception to be abnormal and cause the mine and the view to be abnormal and also cause the persons to carry out their lives wrongly. In the Four Noble Truths, the Papañcadhamma is Samudaya which in the cause of suffering and misunderstanding the suffering.
The attachment to the five aggregates is the suffering. Papañcadhamma is Samudaya Dhamma, Nippapañcadhamma which is Nirodha Dhamma and Magga which is the practice to be away from Dukkha. The Papañcadhamma arises in the mind arising in Chaāyatana.
Therefore, to reduce and to give up the Papañcadhamma is the practice according the principles of Catu-Satipatthāna which means the mindfulness knowing the Papañcadhamma, the fact of which can stop the Papañcadhamma. |
