The purposes of this thesis are (1)to study about the wind in the Theravãda Tipitฺaka, (2) to study about the relationship between the wind and the Dhamma in the Theravãda Buddhism for the development of life. And (3)to apply the teaching of the wind in Theravãda Buddhism for the development of life.
From the theoretical study of the Theravãda Tipitฺaka,it is found that the wind is one of the main components of both animate and inanimate substances.(1)The wind in the animate substance, especially in human being is named inside wind that consists of various winds 6 characters , namely :- breath wind, upper wind , lower wind,wind in the abdominal cavity,wind in the intestines and wind run around body.(2)The wind in the inanimate substance has the blowing nature which is of moving and shift appearance being is named outside wind , for example east wind , dusty wind and cold wind.
Both inside wind and outside wind are under the five aspects of natural law .Human can take wind to be benefit by learning nature both inside wind and outside wind .Wind have the three characteristics behavior as same as other thing those are (1) impermanence (2) suffering (3)soullessness .Thus ,the wind is human’s equipment for meditation. Buddha emphasize wind in 4 Satipatฺtฺhanas especially in mindfulness of breathing with sixteen bases.Result of mindfulness of breathing is more merit.
Result from research, the wind in both animate and inanimate things can be integrated in order to bring about the maximum benefits in Buddhism by understanding the nature of wind, knowing how to use the wind, honoring the wind, accepting the wind and finaling not attaching to the wind.
