This thesis is the analytical study of the influence and the value of Pubbesannivāsa in Theravāda Buddhist Texts and Thai societies. It is of 3 objectives namely :- (1) to study Pubbesannivāsa in Theravada Buddhist Texts, (2) to study the principles of the Buddhist doctrines regarding Pubbesannivāsa in Theravāda Buddhist Texts, and (3) to analytically study the influence and the value of Pubbesannivāsa in Theravāda Buddhist Texts and Thai societies.
From the research, it is found that Pubbesannivāsa in Theravāda Buddhist Texts means the co-living in the past birth as fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, teachers and students, husbands and wives, cousins and friends, bosses and servants, Buddhist monks and laymen. There are 6 kinds of Pubbesannivāsa. They are
(1) parents and sons, daughters, (2) teachers and students, (3) husbands and wives,
(4) cousins and friends, (5) bosses and servants, and (6) Buddhist monks and laymen. All of the 6 groups were Pubbesannivāsa among the Buddha and different persons in the past birth in jātaka (birth story). The principles of Buddhist doctrine regarding Pubbesannivāsa in Theravada Buddhist Texts such as Paticcasamuppāda are those that lead the people concerned with re-birth again and again in Sansaravatta including the principles of the Buddhist doctrine such as 4 Brahmvihanras and 4 Iddhipadas that lead the people to Nibbāna. Pubbesannivāsa is understood among the Thai people as it is the co-living in the past birth as husbands and wives or a couple all of which is one of causes that harm the other people.
Pubbesannivāsa is of the influence which is the literature model in Commentary Text composed by Ven. Buddhaghosa. This Pubbesannivāsa has influence on the literature in the Thai societies, Pubbesannivāsa in Theravāda Buddhist Texts is of 5 values namely :- (1) self development equipment (2) human development equipment (3) human relationship determining equipment (4) law of action and (5) principle of creating new Pubbesannivāsa for improving the old Pubbesannivāsa. Mostly, Pubbesannivāsa in Thai societies is of a value as only the human relationship determining equipment and the law of action.
