This research is of 3 objectives, namely: 1.To study the factor effective to supporting Buddhism by King Rama III , 2.To study the roles played by King Rama III in supporting Buddhism, 3. To study the result of His activities effective to the Thai societies.
From the study, it is found that the factor effective to King Rama III caused Him to be of the faith in Buddhism. What confirms King Rama III’s belief in Kamma and Bodhisatta is the construction of the Phra Malaya’s and Phra Srī Āriyametteyya’s bodies in the Vihāra in Aruna Temple. The idea of thought regarding the belief about the 5,000 years of Buddhism and the five kinds of loss caused Him to build the Buddha’s images. After that, He invited Buddha images to be at the temples constructed by Him. He caused the teachers to teach in various temples. When He performed the meritorious actions, He was of the belief that to do the meritorious action was of the benefit as the repayment and He hoped to the Buddha-Would-Be. King Rama III repaired many temples and supported the government’s officials and the general people to do as he did.
King Rama III was of the extra ability in supporting Buddhism and supported the Saṅgha Order. He often gave the money and the Four Factors to the monks and the sick monks. He also supported the Saṅgha Ordination in order to build up the Buddhist descendants. Regarding the spread of Buddhism, He sent the monk envoys to Srī Lankā and Cambodia in order to bring the Buddhist Scriptures to Thailand for the purpose of comparing with the Thai Editions. He asked the Thai monks to translate the Three Baskets from Pālī into Thai, especially the translation of the Suttanta Pitaka. The other important role played by Him was the building and the fostering the temples in Thailand.
King Rama III had the beneficial activity in fostering Buddhism which caused to arise the arts, the painting, the sculpture, the architecture and literature. He also constructed the permanent materials according to the valuable types of Chinese architecture found at Raja-Orasāram Temple and at other temples. Moreover, He caused to arise the inscription of the text of various subjects in the temples which He fostered. The most distinguished temple is Phra Jetupon Temple. Moreover, He was influential in constructing the temples. In the point of economy, He had been experienced from his being Krommamuen Cesadābodin and preserved the money for using usefully which is known as “Ṅern Thung Daeng”.
On the other hand, He supported the religious matterials, Doctrines and people, each of which caused Buddhism to be progressive up to the present day.
