The aim of this study has been to develop an understanding of
the method of teaching the law of kamma used by Phra
Dhammasinghabur?cariya (Caran ?hitadhammo) of Wat Amphawan,
Sing-buri province, including methods of knowing and modifying
kamma. The study finds that Phra Dhammasinghabur?cariya is unique in
teaching the law of kamma through the practice of insight meditation,
utilizing the B?hu? Mah?karu?ika N?tha and Itipiso chants and the
radiation of loving-kindness as a basis for insight.
The research was conducted in two phases. The documentary
phase found that Phra Dhammasinghabur?cariya’s teaching method does
not deviate from the teachings of P?li Canon either in theory or in
practice. With expertise acquired from various schools clarified by his
personal experience of the law of kamma, and motivated by a
compassionate concern for others and an incessant dedication to
establishing a clear vision of kamma as one’s own, Phra
Dhammasinghabur?cariya employs the practice of insight meditation as
practical worship with the ultimate aim of developing kamma for the
extinction of kamma through the practical teaching of ahosi kamma. Case
studies of disciples found that the method was effective in training 80-85
percent of disciples to know and to modify kamma.
