Abstract

This thesis has the following 3 objectives 1) To study the context of the problem, cause, obstacles and inspirations of Thai national water polo athletes. 2) To study the concepts of making inspiration and study the Four Iddhippada of the Buddhist principles. 3) To present the model of making inspiration followed the Buddhist peaceful way of the Thai national water polo athletes. The qualitative research is used by studying the documents and using the in – depth interview by 9 key informants.

From the research, it is found the followings:

1) Inspiration of becoming the Thai national water polo athletes is from a personal purpose. Although the national athletes have different aims, the athletes have the goal of leading the team to a higher level of competition for male athletes, but for the female athletes have the high inspiration and goal. The obstacles of athletes are short number of athletes because it isn’t popular. The practice time is not practical for the university students. The leader in the team is lack of self-confident to solve problems, and the training has not been trained enough to allow athletes to solve problems themselves and the athletes are lack of discipline when coming to practice. The reason way Thai national team has not been successful is the athletes are lack of inspiration and underestimate the practice for competition.

2) The inspiration is an internal force that makes human being want to do something that they have done to overcome the obstacles. For Buddhism, even if it does not have a word called inspiration, but there is a principle called the Four Iddhippada, which is a principle that work to overcome problems and obstacles as the way to achieve the success, and happiness.

 3) Making the inspiration is the foundation for the athletes to have inspiration and happily success. The trainer should be inspired the athletes by making pleasure in their minds. The result is that athletes have more perseverance in training or competition, as well as the old athletes have the intention to teach the new athletes to the right goals.
