Buddhism Propagation of Buddhist Monks in Thamaka District, Kanchanaburi Province

Abstract

The objectives of research paper were (1) to study Buddhism propagation of Buddhist monks in Thamaka district, Kanchanaburi province (2) to compare the opinion of the populace to Buddhism propagation of Buddhist monks in Thamaka district, Kanchanaburi province, classified by personal data, and (3) to study the problems, obstacles and suggestions for development of Buddhism propagation of Buddhist monks in Thamaka district, Kanchanaburi province. The research methodology was the mixed method research, that the quantitative research used the questionnaire as the tool to collect the data in the field study from 399 peoples in Thamaka district, Kanchanaburi province. The statistics were used for the data analysis through frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation (S.D.), T-test, F-test, One-way Analysis of Variance and Least Significant Difference: LSD. And the qualitative research had the documentary analysis and interview as the tool to collect the data in the field study from 12 key informants and analyzed the data through the content analysis technique.

             The findings of this research were as following:

             1. Buddhism propagation of Buddhist monks in Thamaka district, Kanchanaburi province. Overall, that in high at mean of 4.07, when considering the aspect found that in high level all aspect, the aspects that has the most value include the sender aspect at mean of 4.10, the aspects with the lowest mean include the message aspect at mean of 3.77.

             2. The comparison for opinion of the populace to Buddhism propagation of Buddhist monks in Thamaka district, Kanchanaburi province, classified by personal data found that age and education had the significantly at 0.05, the hypothesis was accepted. And income (per month) had the significantly at 0.01, the hypothesis was accepted. Those personal statuses results not different.

          3. The problems, obstacles for development of Buddhism propagation of Buddhist monks in Thamaka district, Kanchanaburi province, as following: Buddhist monks who work in the quality of Buddhism propagation have a small number, Buddhist monks who Buddhism propagation do not get much encouragement, lack of effective equipment, Pali language is difficult to understand, Buddhist monks who Buddhism propagation do not conform to the current situation, lack of production of documents and publications, Radio propaganda is less, do not get the attention of teenagers, most peoples in society suffer from economic problems. And, the suggestion for development of Buddhism propagation of Buddhist monks in Thamaka district, Kanchanaburi province, as following: develop the technical potential of Dharma propagation to monks, Encourage and praise the monks who work hard, all temples allocate funds for the dissemination of Dharma by making annual plans, adjust the presentation format to suit the target audience, Integrating Dharma into current events, increased production of print media or electronic media and focus to use multimedia, offered through diverse channels, focus on proactive propagation, Improve the presentation method to suit the age of the target group, and emphasize the spread of sufficiency economy philosophy that integrates Buddhism religious principles for peoples who had economic problems.
