The purposes of this research were ; 1) to study the faith in Theravada Buddhism 2) to study the faith towards Loungpho Phrachaowsaensammuen of Buddhists in the territory of Saphisai District, Buengkan Province and 3) to anslytically study the principle of the faith towards Phrachaowsaensammuen of the Buddhists in the territory of Sophisai District, Buengkan Province. This research is the qualitative research by collecting the data from the Buddhist scriptures, documents and related research and to report the results of the research by using the descriptive analysis.
The results of the research are found that the principle of faith in Theravada Buddhism intends to study the meanings of faith in Tipitaka and the attitudes of general academicians. The importance of faith in Buddhism is the faith that has the most importance in the human beings practice. The faith in the Tiple Gems is the cause of faith. That faith can bi divided into 4 types, that is, 1) Kamma-saddha: belief in the law of JKamma, 2) Vipaka-saddha: belief in the consequence of Kamma, 3) Kammassaka-saddha: belief in the individual ownership of Kamma and 4) Tathagatabodhi-saddha: belief in the Enlightenment of Buddha and belief in Tathagata that the Enlightened One has the excellent goodness, well-saying, well-prescribed discipline and then still saying about the value and benefits of the faith in Buddhism. It can be seen that in interviewing the samples, it is found that the researcher understands the principle of faith in Buddhism well and realizes of the importance of faith and understands the occurrence of faith including the types of faith very well.
People in Sophisai District have the situation of location, population, economic lifestyle, environment, society, culture and various traditions and majority of people perform the agriculture such as farming, garden and income in family are still in good condition. Luurmgpho Phrachaowsaensammuen (Phrasaen) is the Buddha’s image that has clearly history and it is the spiritual center of people of Sophisai District again whenever it was invited prom the monastic room in Vientien by floating a raft along the Khong River until reaching the place and placed in Wat Sangkalikaram in Sophisai District, Buengkan Province. At the present, Loingpho Phrachaowsaensammuen is the sacred Buddha’s image and very important for people in Sophisai District all together with the faith of the Buddhists towards Loungpho Phrachaowsaensammuen in the aspect of worship, tradition, culture and rituals in practice including the lifestyle of people in Sophisai District.
The faith of the Buddhists in the territory of Sophisai District, Buengkan Province towards Loungpho Phrachaowsaensammuen is regarded as the faith that occurs with belief considering with wisdom in Theravada Buddhism, that is, 1) to believe in the law of action 2) to believe in result of action 3) to believe that human beings must take responsibility for their action and the result of action and 4) to believe in the potentials reaching the real freedom of human beings. The faith outside Buddhism is the belief concerning the occult science and the belief in sacred things, in ghosts, divines, astrology, tactics and solution of tactics in the way of occultism. Being seen in the Buddhists in Sophisai District, some Buddhists in the association between human beings who have refuge from the ancient time. The religions, therefore, and the former kings take these as the refuge, consolation and will power. It will result the goodness if individual worships and the offense if individual insults. In the case of sacred things, because people in the past used to believe in Brahmanism, people in the territory of Sophisai District, believe in Loungpho Phrachaowsaensammuen in the aspect of prosperity for life, in the aspect of the importance of family, in the aspect of magic, and holy, security from the peril, in the aspect of practice with material gifts and practice of worship and in the aspect of importance for society until the occurrence of various traditions continuously.
