The study aimed 1) to study concepts of human intelligence in facing and overcoming life obstacles based on Buddhist psychology; 2) to construct a pattern of the intelligence development in facing and overcoming life obstacles based on Buddhist psychology by Standard IX students of Wat Sai Ma school of Nonthaburi; and 3) to test the intelligence development program in facing and overcoming life obstacles based on Buddhist psychology by Standard IX students of Wat Sai Ma school of Nonthaburi. The study was a quasi-experimental research in nature, using an evaluation form of intelligence in facing and overcoming life obstacles based on Buddhist psychology with 60 students divided into 30 students of a controlled group and 30 of an experimental group. The collected data were analyzed by using statistics including Percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation.
Results of the study were as follows.
1. Concepts of human intelligence in facing and overcoming life obstacles based on Buddhist psychology comprised 4 items: 1) keeping 5 percepts, 2) self-discipline enhancement, 3) being mindful in using intelligence for solving problems, and 4) earning living with the patience to control bodily, verbal and mental deeds.
2. A pattern of the intelligence development in facing and overcoming life obstacles based on Buddhist psychology by Standard IX students of Wat Sai Ma school of Nonthaburi was the integrating of 4 Buddhist right exertions (Samphanthaphan 4) with the ability for facing difficulties and all kinds of life obstacles (Adversity Quotient: AQ) as one of western psychological theories along with applying 5 precepts as the basic principles strengthening the mindfulness, discipline, patience of students in facing difficulties and overcoming all kinds of life obstacles for effectively earning living.
3. The results of the testing of the study revealed that there was no difference of the controlled group both before and after the experiment but there was the difference of the experimental group after attending the intelligence development program in facing and overcoming life obstacles based on Buddhist psychology by Standard IX students of Wat Sai Ma school of Nonthaburi. When comparing the mean in general, it found that students who joined the said program before and after were significantly different at 0.05 level in the aspects of keeping 5 percepts, self-discipline, being mindful in solving problems, and being patient to control bodily, verbal and mental deeds in earning living.
