The thesis entitled “the potentiality development of the moral teaching Monks in the schools of Bang Khonthi district, Samutsongkham province” consisted of 3 objectives: (1) to study the general conditions of the potentiality of the moral teaching monks in the schools of Bang Khonthi district in Samutsongkham province, (2) to study problems affecting the potentiality of the moral teaching monks in the schools of Bang Khonthi district in Samutsongkham province, and (3) to study ways for the potentiality development of moral teaching monks in the schools of Bang Khonthi district in Samutsongkham province. This was qualitative research with the data collected from 18 key informants. The in-depth interview was used as the research instrument to collect and analyze data.
From the study, it was found as the following:
1. From studying the general conditions of the potentiality of the moral teaching monks in the schools of Bang Khonthi district in Samutsongkham province, it was found as follows: In teaching Buddhism subject, the moral teaching monks mainly taught the contents according to the Basic Education Core Curriculum, in which the indicator was included in the contents of the learning unit; In leading students to practice meditation, the moral teaching monks should begin the teaching from the basic to an advanced level and let the students practice meditation regularly in order for them to get used to it and to develop them to see the values, benefits, and importance of the practice; In teaching or reviewing the Dhamma studies for students, the moral teaching monks should follow the contents according to the Sanam Luang National Dhamma Studies Examination Curriculum as designed for each year; In teaching Buddhism subject for integrating into the daily lives, the moral teaching monks should use the video teaching materials to support the understanding of Morality (Sīla) by controlling the body, speech and mind in order not to harm or take advantages of the others. Including, the understanding that a stable mind and concentration could lead to success in work and with wisdom, students could apply the knowledge for the benefits of themselves and others in the right way.
2. From studying the problems affecting the potentiality of the moral teaching monks in the schools of Bang Khonthi district in Samutsongkham province, it was found as follows: The problem in teaching Buddhism subject according to the basic education core curriculum was a lack of the integration of teaching materials with the contents of teaching; The problems in leading students to practice meditation were the lack of skills, knowledge, and competencies of moral teaching monks to build motivation for students, the lack of readiness of the atmosphere for practicing as there was noise disturbing the concentration of the students, and the lack of the teaching techniques and methods of teachers to persuade the students; The problem in teaching or reviewing the Dhamma studies for students was the limit of the time of the study as the schools arranged the moral teaching monks to teach only 1 lesson per week; The problem in teaching Buddhism subject for integrating into daily lives was the outdated teaching materials as the materials were not interesting and with a lack of integration with other teaching materials to assist with the teaching.
3. The ways for the potentiality development of the moral teaching monks in the schools of Bang Khonthi district in Samutsongkham province, it was found as follows: In teaching Buddhism subject according to the basic education core curriculum, the moral teaching monks should integrate the teaching materials with the contents of the curriculum; In leading students to practice meditation, the moral teaching monks should plan and organize activities that involved the practice of meditation for motivating students and creating a good atmosphere of teaching; In teaching or reviewing the Dhamma studies for students, the moral teaching monks should encourage the schools to extend more the time of the study; In teaching Buddhism subject to integrate into the daily lives, the moral teaching monks should prepare the teaching in advance, and develop the teaching materials to be more various adapting to the students and consistent with the contents of the teaching.
