A Guideline for Promoting the Five Ennobling Virtues for Secondary Schools in Chom Thong District, Bangkok

Abstract

The objectives of this research were; 1) to study the state of activity arrangement to support the Five Ennobling Virtues for secondary schools in Chom Thong district of Bangkok, 2) to study levels of students’ opinions towards a guideline of activity supporting the Five Ennobling Virtues for secondary schools in Chom Thong district of Bangkok, and 3) to propose the guideline of activity supporting the Five Ennobling Virtues for secondary schools in Chom Thong district of Bangkok. The data were collected by questionnaires from 354 samples in 3 schools and by in-depth interviews with 5 school administrators in Chom Thong district and then analyzed by percentage, mean and standard deviation.

 

The research results showed that;

1. The opinion of lower secondary students towards the state of supporting the Five Ennobling Virtues for secondary schools in Chom Thong district was at a high level overall. The highest level was on Right means of livelihood, followed by Sensual restraint, Truthfulness, Loving-Kindness and Compassion, and Mindfulness and Awareness respectively.

2. The guidelines of activity arrangement in supporting the Five Ennobling Virtues for secondary schools in Chom Thong district were as follows:

2.1 In Loving-Kindness and Compassion, weekly alms giving should be arranged to initiate students in charity.  Furthermore, volunteer activity and honorary award should be conducted.

2.2 In the Right means of livelihood, career supportive project, handmade product fair, and training club should be done in school.

2.3 In Sensual restraint, activity and training course in self-control and self-behaving suitable to one’s age and opposite gender treat should be arranged.

2.4 In Truthfulness, goodness record, lost and found activity, home-temple-school activity, training course run by monks, and learning activity focusing on honesty should be arranged for students in every level.

2.5 In Mindfulness and Awareness, meditation activity should be regularly done before starting class.
