The two purposes of this research are to study the content and principles of Dantabūmisutta and to study the practice of Vipassana meditation in Dantabūmisutta by studying the overall details in Theravada Buddhist scriptures, related books, documents and researches, then compiled into descriptive essay.
The research found that Dantabūmi-sutta contains the mental development focusing on heedlessness, supreme effort to train oneself even nearly death to restrain from 5 sensual pleasures; visible objects, sound, smell, taste and tangible objects until one can so one can obstruct hindrances which prevent from wholesomeness. Then he continues practicing with great efforts, discipline, concentration, and wisdom training until entering into the one-pointedness of mind. All these practices have been completed and realized only through renunciation.
The guideline of Vipassana meditation in Dantabūmi-sutta is that practice based on Four Foundation of Mindfulness which aims at training oneself to realize the Three Common Characteristics starting from worldly level up to Noble level. Plans of practitioners are divided into 3 levels; (1) The ordinary persons who have not attained the higher Dhamma, (2) The trainees who still need more practice, namely, Sotāpanna, Sakadāgāmī and Anāgāmī, (3) The trained persons who can be called as Arahatta. The Arahatta has trained himself with Vipassana meditation and reached the One-Pointedness of mind, then, cultivated to insight, for elevating from the worldly to supramundane plane.
