Abstract

The purposes of the research entitled “An application of the Noble Eightfold Paths for the lifestyle of people in Muang Sub-district, Muang District, Nongkhai Province were; 1) to study the principle of the Noble Eightfold Paths in the Buddhist scripture of Theravada Buddhism 2) to study the lifestyles of people in Muang Sub-district, Muang District, Nongkhai Province and 3) to study the application of the Noble Eightfold Path for the lifestyles of people in Mujang Sub-district, Muang District, Nongkhai Province. This study was the qualitative research and to collect the field data and then to report by using the descriptive analysis.

From a study of the Noble Eightfold Path in the scripture in Theravada Buddhism, it was found that there are the contents concerning other Dhamma, that is, the principle of the Four Noble Truths, the Threefold Training, the Dependent Arising, the Three Characteristics of Existence, Dhamma enhancing the practice in accordance with the Noble Eightfold Path, that is, the Four Foundation of Mindfulness, the Four Efforts, the Four Paths of Accomplishment, the Four Controlling Faculties, the Five Strengths, the Seven Enlightenment Factors, the Four Elements, the Five Aggregates, the Six Internal Sense-fields and the Law of Kamma.

The lifestyles of people in Muang Sub-distrct, Muang District, Nongkhai Province can be concluded as follows: from interviewing people in Muang Sub-district, Muang District, Nongkai Province, they have different occupations. From interviewing, it makes us know general lifestyles that majority of people in Nongkhai Province earn their living with trading in various areas especially in Ta-sadet market and descending official occupation in the official center of Nongkhai Province. From interviewing, it can be seen that a great deal of aspect are related with the Buddhist teachings that can be applied for the lifestyles and the aspects of people’s knowledge and understanding the principle of Buddhist teachings of people in Muang Sub-district, Muang District, Nongkhai province appear that they listen to the Buddha’s teaching in the Dhamma practical institutions in Nongkhai Province, Udonthani Province and near provinces and through on lines in various forms. They can understand the Buddhist teachings for their lives in many aspects that are the principles such as to preserve the five precepts and eight precepts and to give in charity in the Buddhist Holidays.

The application of the Noble Eightfold Path for the lifestyles of people in the Muang Sub-district, Muang District, Nongkhai province is the approach for application of the Noble Eightfold Path in order to solve the problems in the three practices of duty as mentioned by emphasizing to change the false views to be the right views in order to be the Dhamma principle leading the spiritual action to the Right understanding, the verbal action to be the ‘Right speech, the physical action to be the Right action by using the principle of Dhamma that is the power consisting of the Right Effort, the Right Mindfulness and the Right Meditation that are the power originating the Right View leading to the Right understanding, the Right Speech and the Right Action that are the necessary quality in solving the problems of the three practices of duties as said in order to make themselves practice as the Right Livelihood  by developing the Noble Eightfold path together with the unitary ways and the related principle of Dhamma, that is, the Four Noble Truths, the Threefold Training, the Dependent Arising,  and the Three Characteristics of Existence including the Dhamma to enhance the practice of the Noble Eightfold Path, that is, the Four Foundation of Mindfulness, the Four Efforts, the Four Path of Accomplishment, the Five Controlling Faculties, the Five Strengths, the seven Enlightenment Factors, the Four Elements, the Five Aggregates, the Six Internal sense-fields and the Law of Kamma.
