The thesis entitled “Sangha development: Strong community development of developer monks in Lampang province” consisted of three objectives. The study aimed: 1) to study concepts and theories about strong community development in Thailand, 2) to study the roles of monks towards Buddhist community development, and 3) to study ways for strong community development of developer monks in Lampang province. This is a qualitative research. The research samples were monks in Lampang province, namely developer monks in 6 aspects/ 6 persons. The research instruments were related documents and the in-depth interview. The data was created through the descriptive analysis and synthesis.
The results of the research were as follows:
1)Strong community development was caused by the changes in consciousness of people in the community that wanted to take participation in economic development, rural development, industrial development, community development, education development as well as other problems that arose in the community resulting the people in the community able to rely on themselves and have a better quality of life.
2) Community development must be conducted according to the Buddhist Sangha administrations in 6 aspects which were administration, religion, welfare education, propagation, public utility and public welfare as well as other important aspects such as morality and ethics, in order to develop to a strong community.
3) Ways for strong community development of developer monks in Lampang province weretoallocate and make the most of the limited budget emphasizing the main issues that would develop the Sangha such as the studying of Dhamma and Pali language, acquiring and supporting anything that would be useful to the Sangha, helping to propagate the Dhamma, assisting in Sangha’s education, helping lay people both mental and in material society, finding an encouragement that would make the Sangha work faster and clearer, arranging all abbots from every temple to be trained about the knowledge on regulatory framework for the sangha (vinaya), law, regulations of the Sangha Supreme council of Thailand, finding ways to resolve conflicts between monks and lay people, organizing a training on how to respect each other, developing new things that would be useful to the Sangha, and taking care and checking up on each other. These would help the Sangha in Lampang province and people in the country to have the love and respect in nation, religion and king, as well as strengthening the nation to prosperity and developing the community by applying the Buddhist teachings.
