The thesis entitled “A study on how to build harmony by using the five precepts of the community in Moobaan Pruekhan Ta Wan Ock, Khukhan district, Sisaket province” consisted of three objectives. The study aimed: 1) to study the concepts on building harmony by using the five precepts in Buddhist teaching, 2) to study the community context of Moobaan Pruekhan Ta Wan Ock, and 3) to analyze ways of building harmony by using the five precepts of the community in Moobaan Pruekhan Ta Wan Ock village, Khukhan district, Sisaket province.

    The results of research were as follows:

    The five precepts according to Buddhism referred to the practice for regulating both physical and verbal actions to be in the right ways with an integrity in body, speech and career. Harmony referred to the unity in bodily, verbal and mental expressions of people in the community in order for them to achieve accomplishment efficiently. Harmony caused affection and unity leading to the success in work performing. 

    From the study of the community context of Moobaan Pruekhan Ta Wan Ock, it was found that the community context consisted of many factors such as motto, vision, mission, tradition, culture, rules, social values and the relationship within the people in the community. There were 3 aspects as the strategy in running the “5 precepts village” project, namely; 1) activities for life improvement according to the five precepts, 2) activities on the Buddhist way of life, and 3) the 5 precepts village as the role model for other villages in the country.      

             From analyzing ways of building harmony by using the five precepts of the community in Moobaan Pruekhan Ta Wan Ock village, Khukhan district, Sisaket province, it was found that through practicing the 5 precepts, people in the village had refrained from doing bad deeds both bodily and verbal. There were 4 areas in promoting the value of harmony according to the 5 precepts, namely; 1) family, 2) community, 3) school, and 4) temple. There were 2 results from building harmony according to the 5 precepts which were 1) people in the community refrained from violating the social rules and 2) people in the community participated in social activities. These results led to the benefits of society and individuals.
