This thesis entitled “Phraphrommongkol (Thong Sirimangkalo) Teaching in Death Preparedness”. This study is quality research, documentary research and indept interview. The objectives of this research as follows: 1) to study the concept of preparing for death of a Buddhist Company in Buddha era, 2) to study the Dhamma Teaching of Phrabrahmamongkhon related to preparing for death, and 3) to analyze the way to prepare for death to daily life.
The study found that the death means an end or a quench of life that is state of work termination of Khan 5, with 2 elements, namely physical death, namely the quenching of the five aggregates (Pañca –khandha) completely there are 2 elements, namely physical death that is to end of the five aggregates and spiritual death that is the death from virtue. That can be classified into 4 kinds, namely the death from the world of all living creatures, the death without the world, the moment of death that occurs every breath and the death by supposing the world. There are two main causes of death in Buddhism, including caused by retribution and lifespan.
Preparing for the death of the Buddhist Company in Buddha era. This research studies the case of Phra Sariputta, Phra Anon, Phra Nang Pachabodithera, Phra Nang Khemari, Anathabinthikasetthi, Phra Phimpisan, Nang Visakha and Nang Sumnathevi According to studies, it has been found that these are the noble people, therefore having a good death preparation, No negligence, before death they had to say goodbye to the Buddha. Then they did the duties or their last missions already, therefore die and nirvana consciously.
In the part of the Dhamma teaching of related to the death preparation, it was found that Phrabhramamongkhon brought the principle of mindfulness foundations to practice that is clear, easy to understand, able to practice and see the result. There is a distinctive feature that is to define continuous sub-posture. These sub-postures are a tool for controling the consciousness to occur continuously and have been defined more frequently until not causing the gap of consciousness. Brahmamongkhon has a teaching about the death preparation that can be classified into 4 principles, namely 1. Kãyãnupassanã Satipatthãna, is to determine of body as a base In order to remember the deterioration of the body, not to cause negligence in life 2. Vedanãnupassanã Satipatthãna is to keep watching or observing the feelings that occur to familiarize with the great compassion that will occur in the time of death. 3. Cittãnupassanã Satipatthãna is to determine of a stable mind, clean mind and not to be shaken mind. And 4. Dhammãnupassanã Satipatthãna is to determine all the Dhamma that happened truly.
The guidelines for preparing to the death and daily life that can be classified into 3 groups, namely 1. The importance of preparing for death is to have consciousness, do not get lost in death and having heaven where to go. 2. There are four main ideas for preparation, including 1) to live with perseverance on the body, 2) to live with psychological perseverance, 3) to live with perseverance in daily life and 4) to live in order to always prepare for death. In the part of the application of preparing for the death in daily life there are 2 ways, including improving behavior and mental development.
