The thesis entitled “An Application of four Iddhipāda in Teaching the Social Studies Course for Wat Srisupan Municipal School in Chiang Mai Province” is of three objectives: 1) to study the doctrines of four Iddhipāda in Buddhism, 2) to study the context of learning management of social studies for grade 4-6 students of Wat Srisupan Municipal School in Chiang Mai Province and 3) to study the guidelines for applying the four Iddhipāda principles for learning management of social studies for grade 4-6 students of Wat Srisupan Municipal School in Chiang Mai Province.
The results revealed that the doctrines of four Iddhipāda are considered as the path of accomplishment or basis for success to all kinds of works from the work of the householder until the work of the practitioners of the meditation. It is a principle for success that must be used in the work and is a principle that gives rise to the power or success, easily translated as a means of success. It consists of four doctrines as 1) Chanda: aspiration, 2) Viriya: energy or effort, 3) Citta: thoughtfulness and 4) Vimaÿsā: investigation. In summary, there is a love, diligence, mindfulness, and use interrogative intelligence. It is all that makes a person successful in what they want.
Wat Srisuphan Municipality School had prepared a teaching program based on the 2008 Basic Education Curriculum by organizing 80 hours of social studies. It was composed of 5 subjects, namely religion, morality, civics, economics, geography and history, with the adoption of Buddhist principles in the context of teaching and learning. The teacher has applied principles of Iddhipāda into the teaching and learning process of social studies in 4 areas: 1) learning process 2) learning media 3) learning activities
4) measurement and evaluation of learning. It is a dharma that makes it successful for administrators, schools and teachers. Therefore, they promote knowledge of this principle.
The application of four Iddhipāda, it was found that students developed the principles to be their guideline for success. The school administrators, teachers and parents were the model for pushing students to use this principle as guidelines in education. However, the school administrators have encouraged teachers to use the four Iddhipāda principles or Buddhist principles to integrate in the field of social studies in 4 areas viz. 1) learning process 2) learning media 3) learning activities 4) measurement and evaluation of learning. In this regard, the teachers have introduced four Iddhipāda principles to review the knowledge in the instructional process in order to point out to students the success of learning and work, including the ethical characteristics of students to be able to develop higher and more effectively.
