The purposes of this study, "Concept and Ceremony of Vessantara Jātaka of Tai People in Phayak, Shan State, Myanmar," were (1) to investigate the history of Tai Buddhists in Phayak, Shan State Myanmar, (2) to study the concept and ceremony of Vessantara Jātaka of Tai people in Phayak, Shan State, Myanmar, and (3) to analyze the concept and ceremony of Vessantara Jātaka of Tai people in Phayak, Shan State, Myanmar. This thesis is a documentary research, and the data were collected by using in-depth interview, analysis and synthesis as follows.
The findings showed that the model of Vessantara Jātaka ceremony of Tai people in Phayak, Shan State Myanmar consists of two forms: (1) festivals or traditions which can be divided into two types: 1.1) the characteristics of preaching on the Buddhist holy days and 1.2) the characteristics of preaching held on the 11th of the lunar month of Tai people; (2) preaching models held outside the festival or organized as a special event,: 2.1) Vessantara Jātaka preaching held for special occasions,
2.2) Vessantara Jātaka preaching held as part of monk ordination, and 2.3) Vessantara Jātaka preaching held as part of the dedication to the relatives who passed away.
The ceremony of Vessantara Jātaka of the Tai has various benefits and values. For individuals, worshiping ancestors and benefactors help them to have something to rely on. For families, for ritual value of worshiping ancestors and benefactors, for social value, for economy, the worship influences the mind and the lives of individuals to live according to the tradition or the good way of life of the Tai community making people have something to rely on so that they can feel safe and secure. for Buddhism, it encourages people to do businesses, creates social order, For the value of the ritual worship of the ancestors and benefactors, the mind of the people in terms of feeling safe and comfortable under the same goal, "Teach everyone about dharma, morality, and how to be a good person."
