The researched entitled “A Model of Contentment Development for
Enhancing Psychosocial Behaviors of Thai Youth” consisted of three objectives. The study aimed: 1) to study problems of model of contentment development for enhancing psychosocial behaviors of Thai youth, 2) to integrate theoretical concepts of contentment development in enhancing psychosocial behaviors of Thai youth, and 3) to propose model of contentment development for enhancing psychosocial behaviors of Thai youth. The study was a mix of quantitative and qualitative research. The research instruments were the questionnaire with the samples of 364 persons. Statistics used were percentage, mean and S.D. standard deviation and in-depth interview of 25 samples with the content analysis using TAC technique.
From the study, it was found that the opinions of the samples toward a
model of contentment development for enhancing psychosocial behaviors of Thai youth, as a whole, were at high levels with an average of 3.69. When considered in each aspect, it was found that 1) the maintaining of the assets that one had acquired by saving up and spending economically was at high level with an average of 3.84, 2) the principle of contentment for enhancing one’s diligence and effort was at high level with an average of 3.84, 3) the stability and security of one’s livelihood was at high level with an average of 3.77, 4) the money spending with buying and shopping according to one’s status, income and livelihood was at high level, 5) the consumption of the four basic needs (namely, food, shelter, clothing and medicine) was sufficient for the needs was at high level with an average of 3.72, 6) knowing the sufficient amount of food consuming which considered as an important matter was at the high level with an average of 3.72, 7) living sufficiently according to the sufficiency economy philosophy was at high level with an average of 3.63, 8) the money spending with appliances and materials such as mobile phone, computer etc. according to the needs was at high level with an average of 3.53, 9) the money spending in order to response to one’s need in accordance with one’s status, income and livelihood was at high level with an average of 3.45, and 10) the pleasure and satisfaction toward one’s status and livelihood was at high level with an average of 3.26.
From the study, it was also found that to classify the 36 problems of a
model of contentment development for enhancing psychosocial behaviors of Thai youth of schools in Secondary Educational Service Area Office, District 9, every sector in the society must give importance to the development of youth, although it’s a national problem, for them to have a good psychosocial behavior and with quality, in order to develop the country, at last. Many changes in the society had caused confusion in the management of behavior changing of original values leading to the lack of qualified content of youth development on contentment. Youth, therefore, formed an undesired psychosocial behavior. Important factors in the society that helped enhancing and worsening the psychosocial behavior of youth were such as family of the youth by being a good or bad example, competition in school, the inappropriate activities, regulations, conflict and pressure of the group, having bad experiences in the society, mass medias or even the change of social environment. All these factors were related to a model of contentment development of youth.
To analyze problems of model of contentment development for
enhancing psycho-social behaviors of Thai youth which consisted of factors that were risky behavior for the cognitive thinking and understanding of problems in many aspects. Therefore, to summarize, there were 5 aspects of problems in a model of contentment development of youth namely, 1) family, 2) religion, 3) community and environment, 4) school, and 5) mass communication.
