This thesis has three objectives, namely: to study craving in the Tipitaka, to study principles to annihilate craving in the Tipitaka, and to find the practical ways of overcoming craving in the Tipitaka. The research used the primary sources from the Tipitaka, Commentaries, sub-commentaries as well as other related, and secondary sources from books, documents, textbooks, and related research works. The collected data was revised, descriptively explained, and reviewed by specialists. From the study, it was found that;

Tanha or desire herein is the desire to become, enjoy in the objects that have form, sound, smell, flavor, touching via contraction of body and mind which cause many factors happens. Desire accompanied by mind, making it soar until struggling, seeking emotion to possess for its desire. Tanha can be divided into 3 categories:  1. Sensual desire 2. Desire to become and 3. Desire to non-become.  

The overcoming of Tanha herein means to absolutely as well as completely end of Tanha by means of causes annihilated that is to say; leaving Tanha by practical ways of two levels namely; preliminarily called Lokiya (Mundane) such as charity (dana) etc. and lastly the highest level called Loguttara (Supramundane), by relying on the methodology of  the  Dharma practice (Satipatthana) which followed each step in order to create intelligence  knowing the change of phenomena that lusts there was an occurrence, existence and cessation.
