The aims of this research were: 1) to study the principles of Buddhism propagation; 2) to study the qualifications of the Buddhist monk propagators in the modern society in Selaphum district, Roi-et province; 3) to analyzed the qualifications of the desirable monks for Buddhism propagation in the modern society in Selaphum district, Roi-et province.
The research results revealed that the propagation of Buddhism is to bring the dhamma principles in Buddhism to people with the aims to create understandings and ability to practice the dhammas of those who received the dhammas by determining the ways, methods, techniques and aims in the propagation operation.
The qualifications of the Buddhist propagators in Selaphum district relied on the ability to use a variety methods to teach the dhammas such as dissemination of Buddhism through organizing ceremonies in Buddhist important dates, occasional visits in villages or schools to deliver the dhamma or to give a lecture or even to discuss the dhamma. The operation of the monks in each area was conducted as the form of volunteer groups. The dhammas used in such operation were about patience, gratitude, sacrifice, helping fellow humans, public assistance, generosity, precepts, oneself control, working, the four noble truths (ariyasaccaya), dhammas for the layperson (ghāravasadhamma), the sublime states of the mind (brahmavihāra) and good friends.
The qualifications of the desirable monks for Buddhism dissemination in Selaphum district are based upon the ability in building entertaining atmosphere, work without compensation expectation, admirable manners and good rhetorical use while delivering the dhammas, perfection of their precept observation, dhamma and language use competency, friendliness, experiences, good conducts, love to spread Buddhism, patience, sacrifice, good knowledge of dhammas and various forms to get listeners’ interest.
