The aims of this dissertation were: 1) to study the development of the temples related to Buddhist tourism; 2) to study the Buddhist tourism management of the temples in Khon Kaen Province; 3) to analytically study the temple management in the province as the Buddhist tourism site. This qualitative research was conducted by using its research tools in collecting the data as the observation and in-depth interview. The obtained data were interpreted by the descriptive analysis.
The research results revealed in the time of the Buddha, to promote and support the temples to be the place with three dimensions of suitability: 1) suitability of location; 2) suitability of persons with knowledge and good behaviors; 3) suitability for education and dhamma practice.
The Buddhist tourism management as seen in Cetiyaphum and Nong Wang temples are quite similar to that of the temples in the time of the Buddha viz. the temples have managed their peaceful, natural and clean environments, appropriated for the dhamma practices. The members of both temples are knowledgeable and endowed with virtues and good behaviors which can be the sample for the others. For the temple management in Khon Kaen to the Buddhist tourism site, the emphasis on building the public mind and cultural tourism by organizing the activities in relations to performing generosity (dāna), precept observation (sīla) and mental development (bhāvanā).
