The present research devises into three objectives, namely; (1) to study the problems and belief in rebirth in Thai society (2) to study the concept of rebirth in Theravâda Buddhist doctrines and (3) to synthesis the knowledge of rebirth as mentioned in Theravâda Buddhist doctrines and in current evident.
The results of the research were found that the beliefs of rebirth in Thai society are diverse accordant with their knowledge, experience, beliefs, way of life, and social status. Most of them still have a false belief about rebirth (Micchâtithi) without a belief in rebirth as a right view (Sammâtithi). The false belief in rebirth not only effect to a negative behaviors, but also lead to unsatisfactory and unbalance of life and right view of the world and life as it is.
The concept of rebirth in Theravâda Buddhist doctrines is promoted the right beliefs called ‘Sammatithi’ which leads to a noble life and a peaceful society. The basically principles of Buddhism are as follows: (1) The law of three characteristics (2) The Law of Kamma (3) The arising origination, and (4) The four Noble Truths.
This includes the doctrines of the Sutta such as the Payasirajanna Sutta, the Buddha Vamsa, the Buddha Vangsa, etc. These doctrines are aimed at cultivate the right view and guide to attain nirvana; and be a supporting doctrines. Especially the evidences in the Pali canon were mentioned that whenever the mankind passed away; surely must be rebirth if mankind still has desires, attachments and ignorant; but if the mankind can eliminate ignorance, desires, and attachments absolutely then called to achieve nirvana. The mankind will not be rebirth again after passing away.
However, there is current evidence that confirms the rebirth in the Theravada Buddhist Scriptures, namely, the study of retrograde hypnosis for psychic healing; the study of the remembrance of a person; the study of death and recovery in a case study of the spirit appears; The study of meditation to contact with the apparitional mankind ; and the study of deities a case studies of intelligent children, a studies of folkloric theory and anthropology; including an other studies as recorded by scientific instruments.
