The thematic paper, “An Analytical Study of Buddhist Leadership of Abbot : Case Study of Abbot in Lumtamenchai District Nakhonratchasima Province” have three objectives : (1) to study Principles of Buddhism that promote leadership, (2) to study the problems and obstacles to the leadership of the abbot in Lamtamenchai District, Nakhonratchasima Province, and (3) to analytically study leadership of abbot in Lumtamenchai District, Nakhonratchasima Provice.
The results of research found that : The Buddhist doctrine that promote leadership which is the nature of the leader who follow dhamma, who is the leader of the righteous in the self and the one who is justified in the direction of administration and management. Buddhist Leadership is the four sublime state of mind like 1) Metta ; loving-kindness, 2) Karuna ; compassion, 3) Mutita ; sympathetic joy, 4) Upekkha ; equanimity. These virtues are principle of practice which develop characteristic of good habit that accumulate and practice it willing without reluctance.
The problems and obstacles to the leadership of the abbot in Lamthamenchai District Nakhonratchasima Province are following as lack of knowledge, lack of understanding of their roles, do not have leadership, attachment in past subject, lack of knowledge and understanding in administration, lack of plan, lack of attendance in meetings of the Sangha. The problem of management of the abbot in Lamthamenchai district in the religious measure is lacking of measure in the management. If the monastery which is so big in province can be developed, but some temples are far away from the community. Education is also important in managing temples. Abbot should have knowledge. Especially today, education is helping to promote knowledge, to develop a better management.
In the analysis of leadership of the abbot in Lamthamenchai District, Nakhonratchasima, Dhamma which promote virtue of abbot is the principle of seven Aparihaniya-dhamma by the convention of perpetual existence, etc. The abbot must have the knowledge and understanding of the principles of leadership, to understand the practice of dealing with the sangha in the same monastery. There must be techniques applied in Sangha government. They need to cooperate to attend the meeting. The abbot who have the leadership according to Buddhism, which is the practice of duty of the Synod of the Council of Supreme Sangha to bring about the order of the Sangha. It is based on the administration of duty of officer monks in govern and take care the monk and novice in own administrative area in their respective territories to be correct, according to the principles of Dhamma-Vinaya, and the Ecclesiastical Act. It must help develop the temple as the center of community.
