An Analytical Study of Influence of Suwannasāmjātaka to People in Rai-aoy Sub-District, Phichai District, Uttradit Province.

Abstract

The research objectives were as follow: 1. to study the history and essential of Suwannasāmjātka 2. To study the Buddhist principles appeared Suwannasāmjātka and 3. to analyze the influence of Suwannasāmjātaka toward Raiaoy people, Pichai district, Uttaradit province. This research was qualitative research were conducted by studying related books and researches and in-depth interview.

The results were found as follow:

             During the Buddha enlightenment, there was one monk. He shared foods from arm bow to his mother. Many monks were angry and then, they told the story to the Buddha. The Buddha taught Suwannasāmjātaka to monks that when he was a Suwannasām. He did the same as this monk. The essential of Suwannasāmjātaka was that Suwannasām stayed with parents who were hermits in  Himmapan forest. A day later, his parents were blind. He always took care of his parents. One day, he scooped water and then, he was shoot by king Kapinyaksa, the king of Varanasi because of the misunderstanding that was a Deva or (Naga), Suwannasām was unconscious after got the shoot. Later, king Kapinyaksa accepted his mistake. He told Suwannasām parents that Suwannasām die because of his arrow near a bank of the river. Suwannasām parents asked King Kapinyaksa to lead them in order to meet Suwannasām at a bank of the river. Luckily, Suwannasām didn’t die, he was just unconscious the mother of Suwannasām was prayed and wished to him back to them. After Suwannasām woke up, he told King Kabinyaksa  being in 10 Royal Virtues of King.

             The doctrines appear in Suwannasām were consisted of : 1) the Law of Karmma or the cause and effect, the Karmma of Suwannasām’s parents who were blind. 2) Sacca is the truth of Suwannasām who intend to take care his parent’ blind and intention of his mother when he was shoot. 3) Compassion principle or the principle of love to all living creatures. 4)  Gratefulness of Suwannasām that he treat his parents, although he had got shoot but still worried in parents. 5) the 10 Royal Virtues of King, after got the sermon of Suwannasām , the king was lived and ruled by the 10 Royal of the king

             The influence of Suwannasāmjātaka towards Rai-Aoi sub-district people, Phichai district, Uttaradit province divided in 4 aspects: 1. Belief aspect, Rai-Aoy people believe in Buddhist principles appeared in Suwannasāmjātaka since there are the Buddhist principles that can apply in daily life. 2. Family aspect, Buddhist principles such as law of action, veracity, kindheartedness, gratefulness and virtues of the king make family members live peacefully together and help each other. 3. Social aspect, Buddhist principles appeared in Suwannasāmjātaka make the quality of life of Rai-Aoy sub-district people were better. People harmony is vital to success and lack of all kinds of crimes. 4. Intelligence aspect, Rai-Aoy sub-district people understand the law of action and the truth of life. Especially, they realized the life value and they also follow the Lord Buddha doctrines in order to make people in society to live very peacefully.
