The aims of this research were: 1) to study the factors influencing the process of gambling preventing and solving in Ban Non Khwao community, Ban Lao Sub-district, Ban Fang district, Khon Kaen province; 2) to study the application of Buddhadhamma to solve the gambling behaviors in such community. This qualitative research was conducted through the study of the relevant documents, fieldwork and in-depth interviews.
The research results indicate that the factors influencing the process of gambling preventing and solving in Ban Non Khwao community were: family status, education, occupations, inspiration, environment, economics and survival. All are the important factors influencing to the success of gambling behavior prevention and solution.
The Buddhadhamma used to solve the gambling behaviors in such community were: 1) Six Vices (abāyyamukkha), 2) Aparihaniyadhamma (aparihāniyadhamma: things leading never to decline but only to prosperity), 3) Sammappadhana (saṁmappadhāna: effort to prevent), 4) Eightfold Noble Paths and 5) Five Precepts. These dhammas should be practiced and applied to prevent the gambling problems in the community. This will lead the community to be away from gambling, safe, livable and as a moral community model.
