A Guideline for Promoting Emotional Intelligence Based on Buddha-dhamma for Students of Phrapariyattidhamma School, General Education Division, Bangkok

Abstract

The objectives of this research were; 1) to study the current state of emotional intelligence of students in Phrapariyattidhamma schools, General Education Division, 2) to study methods of promoting emotional intelligence of students in Phrapariyattidhamma schools, General Education Division, and 3) to propose a guideline of promoting emotional intelligence of students in Phrapariyattidhamma schools, General Education Division, Bangkok. The data of this mixed method research were collected from 300 students by questionnaires and by in-depth interviews with 7 experts, and then analyzed by mean, standard deviation, and content analysis.

The results of the study found that:

1.The current state of emotional intelligence of students in Phrapariyat tidhamma schools, General Education Division, in Bangkok was at a normal level. The highest level was on goodness, followed by intellectual, and happiness respectively.

2. The promotion of emotional intelligence of students in Phrapariyat tidhamma schools, General Education Division, could be integrated with the Threefold Training and the Eightfold Path. The emotional intelligence in goodness could be developed by precepts, the emotional intelligence in intellectual could be developed by concentration, and the emotional intelligence in happiness could be developed by wisdom.

3. A guideline of emotional intelligence promoting of students in Phrapariyat tidhamma schools, General Education Division, in Bangkok was as follows; 1) To develop studentsemotional intelligence in goodness by precepts through activities that control their desire, but to increase their hospitality, sharing, giving, responsibility, and following social conditions, 2) To develop studentsemotional intelligence in intellectual by concentration through activities that encourage students to be enthusiastic, adaptive, and appropriately self-confident, and 3) To develop studentsemotional intelligence in happiness by wisdom through activities that train students to have good relationship with others and to have self-satisfaction.
