The purposes of this study were aimed at 1) studying the sermon in Bun Phawet of Wat Putthapradit, Phon Thong Sub-district, Chiang Yuen District, Maha Sarakham, 2) studying the theories of beauty according to the viewpoint of Idealism, and 3) studying the Beauty of Sermon in Bun Phawet of Wat Putthapradit, Phon Thong Sub-district, Chiang Yuen District, Maha Sarakham. The study was a qualitative research. The research tool used was an In-depth Interview and the key informants were totally twenty five people: five monks, ten management committees, and ten sermon listeners. Data analysis was by Inductive Descriptive Analysis.
The study result was found that the sermon in Bun Phawet of Wat Putthapradit was Isan retrospective called Intimacy and Sharing. This happened annually in the fourth month (March), as Isan belief. The event would always bring the past lives of the Lord Buddha in Vessantara, who gave away everything he owns, including his children, thereby displaying the virtue of perfect generosity, before being born as Prince Siddhattha and he would become self-enlightened as the Lord Buddha.
The theory of Idealism was the theory that paid attention importantly on mind. Idealism philosophers realized that the beauty was in mind and could be touchable with hearts; therefore, the beauty referred to as pleasure, understanding, and faith to reduce bad desires. The Beauty of Sermon in Bun Phawet according to Idealism of Wat Putthapradit was the beauty happen through the sermon in Bun Phawet as follows; 1) understanding the context and Dhamma puzzle connoted in Vessantara Jātaka that had been improving people’s lives ever since in line with Dhamma and merit making, 2) showing the beauty of language usage through internal and external rhyme, and rhetoric appropriately and properly, and 3) being pleased with the rhythm and melody of the sermon.
