A Study of Chandha in Theravāda Buddhism

Abstract

 

This research consists of 3 aims:-  1) to study of Chanda in Theravāda Buddhism,  2) to study the case study of persons who have the Chanda in Buddhism and  3) to present the way to apply Chanda in school. Tipitaka is used as the primary source and books, Buddhist text, thesis, research and online media are uses as the secondary. It is the form of qualitative research which is kept by interview form from 20 the sample people in 4 groups, namely;  school’s administrator, teachers, students of Wangdaeng 2 in Tron District, Uttaradit province and its analysis is descriptive.

The result of research is found as following;-  

Chanda means the aspiration in working for success and achievements without discourage received things. In which, importance is –want to do the best that is not concerned on stimulation and advantage. there are examples in Buddhism both noble monks, king, philosophers, Millionaire taking Chanda for leading to success of their duties in the life time the Buddha such as Phra Ānon, Phra Sārībutta, Phramahā Kassapa, Phra Nandaka, in the past time of Buddha such as King Ajātasatru, the King Asoka mahārāja and persons in the present time such as the King rāmā  IX of Thailand,  Phra Bhrammaguṇāpon (P.A. Payuth Payutto) and  Phramahā Wutthichai Vajiramedhī etc.

                 The ways for application of the Chanda the school from target group are the addministrators, teachers and students of Wangdaeng  School 2 in 6 sides in following ;- (1) policy; the school has teacher to apply Chanda with the lesson as integration with curriculum, (2) activity;  the teachers have brought the Chanda to do as  activities which the came from the plan of learning management (3) homework; the teachers assigned homework to students by creating tasks and sports matching with content of the lessions which is good effect to students sending their homework unchtaully and correctly, (4) Dhamma camp;  the school has policy for supporting activity of camp both virture and ethic  in Dhamma training, annually, (5) popularity cultivation;  the school has policy to cultivate 12 aspects along with the policy of Ministry of Education to cultivate student to be good citizen consciousness and (6) Chanda self-creation, the students create Chanda for themeself in 4 ways, for instance (1) the  consciousness in building up a fortune age, (2) the consciousness in the middle age,

(3) how to be patient in  pressure state and (4) how to create dream for oneself.
