The title of research study is the dharma riddles regarding death tradition of Sukhothai Province. The objectives are 1) to study of the death appearing in Buddhism, 2) to study of the dharma riddles regarding death tradition of Sukhothai Province, and 3) to analyze the dharma riddles regarding death tradition of Sukhothai Province. This is the qualitative research to study from the religious literary documents, teaching, and interview for referring in the analysis data.

                  The result of research found that:-

                        1) The term of death in Buddhism, it means the cessation of five aggregates or the end of body and mind. The death is the lack of psychic life. When we still have life, the vitality nourishes our body, to make brighten and movement. When without the vitality, we cannot move body, no feeling; the body is like a piece of wood. If it is like the lamp which depended on some oil having light and if it gone, it is dark. The body as the lamp, the vitality is as the oil. If the life or vitality is gone, the body also cannot use, as the dark lamp. All people will be dead in any day. In the end, he will be wishing to die or be ready to face with death coming. In the social aspect, there are differences in faiths, cultures, and traditions. The determination of people in the society will see the death and the way to practice to the death of individuals in each of near death which is related too.

                        2) The dharma riddles regarding death tradition of Sukhothai Province, it found that no one avoid the death, all living beings are risen to wait for death as the final of life, and the funeral ritual is organized. In each stage of the funeral procession, is to give some respect and expressing condolence to the dead person in the last life. The person who is relative or who knows the funeral ritual, it is done with neatness as the dead were still alive. Even the dead were gone for a long time, there is a memorial to do the anniversary and express gratitude that the relatives of the dead had made merit to remember the goodness of those who have long gone. At the funeral, it is latent with the dhamma which the Buddhist scholar has create by the Buddha’s teaching to the generation knows the teaching and bring it extend and practice without weariness. In other words, it is the teaching media of the elder person in the past which communicate with the dharma riddles. 

                        3) The dharma riddles appearing in the funeral ritual of Sukhothai province, from the study, researcher found that the dharmic paradox is latent in the funeral ritual has taught the person to prepare before dead, to be endowed with the goodness, avoid evil. There are in every steps of the funeral. In the other hand, when we went to participate everywhere, it is not mean we were closed with him or just for respect to him, but we went there for considering the foulnesses, what is good or beauty, what we are knowing by the internal or external senses-fields are foul and unbeautiful. Thus, person who will transfer the latent dhamma to the relative and the participants for the funeral must be all Buddhist to propagate the Buddha’s teaching to person who does not know the Buddhist principles to understand, not do to the dead only. And we must teach people who are still alive living in the heedfulness and to endow with the merit making.
