This Qvalitative dissertation has three objectives: (1) to study the backgrond and the role of Cakkavatti in Buddhist scriptures, (2) to study the Dhamma principles of Cakkavatti in Buddhist scriptures, and (3) to propose the application guideline of Dhamma principles of Cakkavatti for social development.
The Findings show that Cakkavatti means emperor who is greater than other kings , there are 7 majestic gems of Cakkavatti. The Emperor in the Buddhist scriptures is divided into 3 types: (1) the Universal Emperor (Cạkkawāla Cakkavattī), (2) the Emperor in the continent (Dīpacakkavattī), and (3) the Emperor of the country (Padesacakkavattī). The two emperors will not be born simultaneously. The body is complete with 32 aspects of the great man. He ruled the country with Dhamma and has a higher position than human but has a lower position than the Buddha. The story of the Emperor is found in almost 20 suttas and finds many explanations in the commentarial scriptures. The emperor has an interesting role because it involves both the government and the religious. So the Researcher brings a role of the Emperor to compare with the Buddha and the many disciples, Venerable Ananda for instance.
There are many principles of the Emperor in the Buddhist scriptures such as dāna, the Five precepts, Ubhosathasīla, kamma, saňňama, dama, Jhānasamāpatti, etc and can be classified into 6 types: (1) For life development (2) Take care of family (3) The rule of country (4) For economic development (5) For the Protection of Animals and the Environment (6) For support and protect Buddhism.
The application on social development of 6 types 1) Life development: Human beings should develop their own three aspects, namely, social assistance, help other person with good articles and advice (Dāna). Develop a behavior as a disciplinarian (Sīla) and develop a cognitive intelligence (Bhāvaňā). 2) take care of family: Take care your parents for their physical and mental health, care for your wife and children by introducing them to the precepts and protect the potential danger. 3) the rule of country: Rule subordinates every level with fairness. Manage the government departments for rule the country. Listen to feedback and then improve the administration. Let everyone take part in the care of the society as they can. 4) For economic development: Support a good career for everyone to helping their families and give alms in religious. 5) For the Protection of Animals and the Environment: Prohibit the hunting for all kinds of wildlife. Protect and improve the natural environment intact. 6) Support and protect Buddhism: Support the education and practice of the good couduct Buddhist monks.
