Abstract

 Buddhist based Psychosocial Therapy for Mental illness is structured group program development that studies the relationship between Buddhist theory to alleviate suffering associated with physical, psychosomatic and mental disorders   evolved from Buddhist principles since the Buddha’s era and integrated with Psychosocial Treatment for Mental  Illness such as Stress, Anxiety, Depression and Suicide Attempts.

This study is Mixed Method Research Combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. A qualitative work, using (1) documentary research on the Buddhist in the Thai Tripitaka and Psychosocial Intervention; (2) Field research, focusing on the 2 objectives of research (1) The Mental Problems and (2) The effective of Program Buddhist Psychosocial Treatment Mental Illness in the hospital with Quasi-experimental method , one group pretest-post-test design. Purposive Sampling obtained a group of 10 Patients cases during December 2017 to February 2018. The data collection instruments used to obtain data were a General Health Questionaire-28 developed by Goldberg (1972) and translated into Thai by TanaNilchaikovit,ChukkritSukying, and ChatchawanSilpakit (1996). And also assessment family function were a Chulalongkorn Family Inventory: CFI adapt from The McMaster Model of Family Functioning Assessment Device/FAD with 36 questionnaires developed by UtoompornTrankasombat. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic. The program  has 45 days treatment and have four steps. First step working at Mae Sariang Hospital Mae Hong son for meet and Treatment patients by using Therapeutic Relationship with Psychoeducation . (2)  treatment of Psychosocial crisis and doing Breathing exercise withIndividual Psychotherapy (Psychoanalitically-oriented) (3) This step doing Family and Counseling Therapy at Home based.(4) This step doing Group Therapy by Practice Anapanasti 16 steps following in Tripitaka. Used Therapeutic Milieu  at Ban Mae SawanNoi Park in the community. And  evaluation of the Buddhist Psychosocial Program.

The main result can be divided into two parts. The first found that the mental health problems that were found highly revealed that 100 percent of the subjects report showed that: unhappiness, somatic symptom, anxiety and insomnia, social dysfunction, and severe depression. And all those had family problems and psychosocial crisis. The result of this study could be used as preliminary data for appropriate Buddhist Psychosocial Therapy .The second found that the results pre and post experimental showed:- Both of Mental Health and Family function recovery in the experimental group were both significantly improved.

In conclusion, I would like to  recommendation that  Buddhist based Psychosocial therapy showed the effectiveness and efficacy to reducing mental problems such as stress, anxiety, depression, suicide ideas and also reducing the maladaptive family crisis and psychosocial crisis, leading to reduce patients’ relapse, recurrence and increase mental health and happiness of life again. We should study for research development of this program for the new innovation of Treatment in the hospital   and community. Hope it will be stop Mental illness depression and increase mental health and happiness wellbeing and quality of life for all.
