The aims of this research were: 1) to study the history and contexts of the text Bhagavad Gita; 2) to study the metaphysical concepts and theory in the text; 3) to analyze the metaphysics as appeared in the text. This study employed the documentary research method to collect the data from the primary and secondary document before the data were interpreted by the descriptive analysis based on the deductive method.
The research results were as follows:
1. The Bhagavad Gita is part of the Mahabharata (chapters 23-40 of the 6th book of Mahabharata), which is an ancient Indian epic that tells the story of a great struggle between two branches of a single ruling family, the Kauravas and the Pandavas. They are fighting over the fertile and valuable land at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers near Delhi, and their conflict ends in an awesome battle. The content relates to the communication between Krishna and Arjuna which takes place in Kurukshetra. The battle took 18 days and all sides lost a number of their soldiers. At the end, the Pandavas won the battle.
2. The metaphysics in this text relates to the truth of Brahman, god, karma, circle of existence, rebirth and Mosha attainment. All truths can be accessed in three ways: 1) wisdom, 2) action, 3) royalty. The last is much more emphasized than the others.
