This dissertation is comprised of 3 objectives; 1) to study the history and structure of Saṁvaṇṇanā in Theravada Buddhism, 2) to study the types of Saṁvaṇṇanā of Pali literature in Inwa period, and 3) to analyze the explanation method in commentary and sub-commentary on the Dhammapada. The study was documentary research by taking primary sources from Tipitaka, 8 divisions of Khuddakanikaya starting from Yamakavagga up to Sahassavagga with its commentary and sub-commentary in Thailand and Myanmar. Data was analyzed, composed in descriptive style setting Pali terms at first then describing it by one term and many terms.
