The quality research is aim to study the using of alms-bowl in Theravada Buddhism. The object of research is 1) to study the background of alms-bowl in Buddhism, 2) to study the disciplinary promulgation of using alms-bowl in Buddhism and 3) to study the benefit of using alms-bowl in Buddhism.
The results of research as follows;
The alms-bowl was used by the wonderers before the Buddha’s time. Mostly, alms-bowl was made from calabash, big cashew without seeds, terra-cotta and dead-skull. It was stringed around for taking by hand and hanging on shoulder. For the first alms-bowl of the Buddha, it was offered by Ghatikara Brahma when the Buddha gave up lay-life and became the wanderer. According to Buddhist canon, there are 2 kinds of alms-bowl; clay and iron. The story of alms-bowl in Thailand can trace since the king Rama I of Ratanakosindra period. Currently, the method of making alms-bowl can divide into 3 ways; 1) to make new one, 2) to modify it and 3) to amend it. Downlaod |
