Abstract

ABSTRACT

           This research Objectives are 1.) to investigate the problems of learning and teaching of Pariyattidhamma (Dhamma Study) in Muang district Phitsanulok province, 2.) to compare the opinions on the problems of learning and teaching of Pariyattidhamma (Dhamma Study) in Muang district Phitsanulok province, and 3.) to study the problem, Obstacles and suggestions of learning and teaching of Pariyattidhamma (Dhamma Study) in Muang district Phitsanulok province.

This research conducted by Mixed Methods Research were both quantitative research using Survey Research based on questionnaire and Qualitative Research by In-depth Interview with key Informant.

The samples were monks and novices who studying Dhamma in Muang district Phitsanulok Province, semester 1 year 2018 with the number of 181 students were randomly assigned to stratified random sampling and determine the size of the sample using the formula to calculate the sample of Craig and Morgan.

The research instrument was a questionnaire, which was a questionnaire and a five-level rating scale, reliability of the questionnaire was 0.933 The data were analyzed using the program for social science research, using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and F-test were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (One Way ANOVA). In the case of three or more primary variables the differences were compared by means of Least Significant Difference (LSD) with 0.05 significance level and In-Depth Interview with the Key Informants 7 people using contextual analysis techniques.

 

Results  of the Research

1. A Study the problems of learning and teaching of pariyattidhamma (dhamma study) in muang district phitsanulok province’s overall average was a moderate level. When we analyze the detail in each aspect, it was found that 1.) Curriculum was a moderate level 2.) Instructional activities was a moderate level (= 2.97, S.D. = 0.692).     3.) The use of instructional media was a moderate level ( = 2.54, S.D.= 0.656)    4.) Measurement and evaluation was a moderate level (= 3.41, S.D. = 0.976)

2. A Study the comparison of the opinions on the problems of learning and teaching of Pariyattidhamma (Dhamma Study) in Muang district Phitsanulok province. The data of the respondents were as follows: Monks and novices with the status, age had an opinion in overall toward the problems of learning and teaching of Pariyattidhamma (Dhamma Study). no difference at the 0.05 level, the hypothesis was rejected.

3. Problems, obstacles, and suggestions 1.) Course’s content is too diversified, 2.) Teachers have too few teaching activities, 3.) Instructional media is not enough for the students, 4.) Teachers rarely measure and evaluate classroom teaching. Suggestion as follows: 1.) The curriculum should be adjusted appropriately based on the maturity of the students, and to reduce some subjects that are not important, including adjust the content of Dhamma subject to less, however, key issues remain, reduce emphasis on memorization, focus on more analytical thinking. We should be research both curriculum the basic course and the Dharma course, including choose the content of the curriculum that is appropriate for study, 2.) Teachers should study more the teaching method, 3.) Administrators and teachers should provide enough instructional media to students, 4.) Teachers should focus on measuring and evaluating teaching and learning.
