Abstract

The study of Buddhist peaceful means in healing those affected in the 3 southern boder provinces of the Buddhist Network Group for Peace is of 3 objectives, i.e. 1) to study Brahmavihāradhamma in Buddhist Scripture; 2) to study the work and results of healing those affected in the 3 southern boder provinces of the Buddhist Network Group for Peace; and 3) to analytically study the way to heal those affected from the violent incidents in the 3 southern border provinces according to Buddhist peaceful means.

The research sample group consisted of the network group of Buddhists for peace under the way of Buddhist peaceful means, the people who were healed by the Buddhist Network Group for Peace, the core leaders and its members, totaling 13 monks and lay people.  This qualitative research had the tools of the fieldtrip interviewing model for studying the ways that the Buddhist Network Group for Peace healed those affected from violent incidents in the areas of southern provincial borders; the questions were divided to ask 2  types of interviewees, i.e. 1) the core leaders and the members of the Buddhist Network Group for Peace; and 2) those affected from violent incidents in the 3 southern border provinces.

The research results were found the followings:

                   1) The Four Brahmavihāra in Buddhist Scripture still has got its significance in peacebuilding to the society as in practicing this Dhamma, the practitioner has got to spiritfully share the merit to other beings.   Thus, whenever Brahmavihāra practices of Mettā or loving kindness, Karuā or compassion, Muditā or sympathetic joy and Upekkhā or equanimity occur, they do not affect only the practitioners but also do directly to the society.    The society along with the Four Bhramahvihara as the principle for leading life is surely without harm, jealousy, and bias among its people.

                   2) Peaceful means in accordance with the concept of harmony is one of the contextual ways of healing those affected from the violence in the  3 southern border provinces by the Buddhist Network Group for Peace, whose leader as its president is Phramaha Jarieng Kosadhammo, Wat Buraparam, Yarhing district, Pattani province; the means is widely accepted as the core in solving problems. The objectives of setting up the Network are: to gather members of Buddhist Network Group in the 3 southern border provinces, 4 districts of Songkhla province in order to visit and cheer the Buddhist members of the Network group who have been suffered from the violent incidents in their living areas; to develop for the Network’s and its members’ higher knowledge and potentiality for peacebuilding in the preserved areas; to renovate and promote Buddhist arts, culture and tradition; and to act against every side’s form of violence.

                   3) In the way of helping those affected from the violent incidents in the 3 southern border provinces heal their mind according to Buddhist peaceful means of practicing Mettā or loving kindness, Karuā or compassion, Muditā or sympathetic joy and Upekkhā or equanimity by the healer who knows how to do it correctly and in the right way, it will facilitate the healer with this know-how learning to be kind and generous in assisting and healing those who suffer without thinking about any reciprocation.  This kind of healer will aim to yield benefits to all humans and other beings, as well as to up-lift others’ life quality.
