Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

 

This research consists of 3 objectives, i.e., (1) to study the conceptual ideas and theories of peaceful organization managements in the general theories; (2) to study the managements of Wat Thannamlai (Suanmokkhaphalarama) according to the Seven‘Sappāya’; and (3) to present the ways to manage peaceful temples according to the Seven‘Sappāya’ for Wat Thannamlai (Suanmokkhaphalarama) and other temples or organizations.   The research is qualitative, together with an in-depth-interview for information collection and its related analysis.  The results of the research can be concluded as the followings:  

 

The conceptual ideas and theories of a temple management by the Seven‘Sappāya’ mean the provisions of conditions and factors in facilitating the studies and practices, and the enhancements of the well beings and self-development.  There are 7 suitable matters or favourable conditions in developing people for the good outcomes of persisting and not declining progress, supporting things, places or persons which and where or whom are comfortable for the supports of having effort in practicing for wisdom, i.e., the proper residences or temples and places to go out for alms, the proper conversation that supports practitioners and makes surrounded people happy and stable in their minds, the proper food, the proper Utu or physical laws of energy, seasons, the climate of coldness and hotness, the proper temperature and surroundings, and the proper Iriyāpatha or postures, etc., all of which could enhance calmness and peace for organizations. 

 

Wat Thannamlai (Suanmokkhaphalarama) has managed the systems of its administration and management by giving attention and agrees with the Seven‘Sappāya’ by using all the seven ways, i.e., regarding the residence or the temple, Wat is emphasized to be built with Dhamma implications, for instance in pictures; regarding Gocara or the suitable place, it is next to the main road of the southern region, the Asean Road which travelling is convenient with many channels to come to it; regarding the personnel, Wat has its role models from Lhuangpor Buddhadasa who was the leader in self-developing to attain Buddhist Dhammas; regarding conversation, Wat sticks to talking less, practicing more and there is a wide spread of disseminating Dhammas in many styles, i.e. by voices and books, etc.; regarding the food, Wat has its kitchen without cooking special food for any specific person in order not to let the food attachment happen; regarding the climate, Wat is not too warm nor too cold which is quite suitable for practitioners; and regarding Iriyāpatha or postures, Wat has its certain places for practicing Dhammas and pays attention to practitioners by emphasizing the natural living which is suitable to each of them.  Accordingly, achievements of any Wats or temples can be confirmed as the folks’ beliefs in case of their followings the administrative managements according to all the 7 ways.  

As for the ways to manage a peaceful temple in accordance with the Seven‘Sappāya’ for Wat Thannamlai (Suanmokkhaphalarama) and other temples or organizations, it is found from the research that those 7 suitable ways should be managed properly for mutual living and suitably for practicing Dhammas in the aspects of the following administrative managements: buildings and places; travelling both inside and outside the temples; Dhamma dissemination, personnel, food, climate and surroundings; activity and project arrangements.  However, there should be plans, controlling and leading, target setting and worthiness, and other causes and effects to enhance temple managements for continual peace.
