37 Bodhipakkhiyadhammas (Virtures partaking of enlightenment) are the essential virtues which can make a common people to become Ariya ; step by step starting from Sotāpanna (Stream Enterer), Sakadāgāmi (One Returner), Anāgāmi (Non Returner) and Arahanta (The Perfected One).
Saṅkiccasāmaṇera was a son of a millionaire’s daughter in the city of Sawasti. Saṅkicca’s mother died when he was in her abdomen. Her relatives took her corpse into fire but her abdomen was not burnt. The funeral man used a javelin to scratch her abdomen which was not burnt. The javelin hit Saṅkicca’s canthus while the fire cannot hurt him. When Sangkijja was 7 years old, he knew his biography from his relatives. He wished to be ordain. He received Tacapañcakakammathāna and ordained with Sariputta. Saṅkiccasāmaṇera enlightened Arahanta with Patisampitha while he was in having his hair shaved.
Tacapañcakakammathāna refers to the observation on hair, fur, nails, teeth and skin. It is both Samatha and Vipassana. Focusing on Samathayānika by determined and saw birth-death process until a boredom happened, a blase mind will relieve desires, feel free from greed and attachment, finally become paths, fruits and nirvana.
