Abstract
This research paper aims at the followings; to study of story and perfection accumulating of Aññakoṇdaññathero and Soṇakolivisathera and 2) to compare the enlightenment of Aññakoṇdaññathero and Soṇakolivisathera by studying the data from the Theravada Buddhist scriptures and other related documents, then, composed, summarized, analyzed, explained in details, corrected and verified by Buddhist scholars.
The enlightenment refers realizing on 4 noble paths, 4 fruits and Nibbana such as Aññakoṇdaññathero was born in Brahman family, completed 3 Vedas and astrology. He was received predictions from 2 Buddhas for gaining excellent position of Bhikkhus disciple in first realizer of Dhamma in the time of Gotama Buddha while listening the first sermon Dhammacakkappavattanasutta, he gained dhamma-eye becoming the first noble disciple in Buddhism. No longer, after listening Anattalakkhanasutta then attained Arahantship with his 5 close friends. Soṇakolivisathera was born in rich family. After ordained as Bhikkhus, he had attained enlightenment by balancing the faculties and listening the teaching of Buddha regarding to 3 stings of lute analogy, no longer attained enlightenment.
A comparison of enlightenment of Aññakoṇdaññathero and Soṇakolivisathera found that the similarity was that both had followed the middle path of practice. The difference was that Aññakoṇdaññathero got enlightenment by having listened Dhammacakkappavattana-sutta and Anattalakkhaṇa-sutta which signifies contemplation of mental objects in Foundation of Mindfulness while Soṇakolivisathera got enlightenment by balancing his faculties signifying the contemplation on mind.
